Hospice
When curative treatment is no longer an option, comfort care is ideal to provide an optimal quality of life. Comfort care addresses the symptoms of a disease to alleviate any pain. Hospice care is a special type of care for those who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. We surround patients and their families with a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, nurse aides, spiritual counselors and volunteers to ensure they have the best quality of life.
Types of Hospice
Inpatient Hospice
We can provide hospice care at St. Francis Healthcare System's 12-bed inpatient facility in Nuʻuanu.
Hospice at Home
We can provide hospice care in a patient’s own home, in a nursing facility, care home, or foster home.
Auxiliary Services
Support Care
Some health plans allow patients who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness to receive both hospice care and curative treatment at the same time. This allows you to receive curative treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, or transfusions, while also receiving hospice care to alleviate symptoms so that you can have the best quality of life and make every moment count with your loved ones.
Spiritual Support
St. Francis Healthcare System believes in providing care for the whole person — body, soul and spirit. That’s why we have an entire department dedicated to meeting the spiritual needs of hospice patients and their families. We provide counseling for those of all faiths to help individuals and families cope with illness, loss, grief or pain and to be sensitive listeners to toward wholeness.
