Volunteer with St. Francis
“It is in giving that we receive.” – St. Francis of Assisi.
As a volunteer for St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii, you will have opportunities to give of your time and talents and receive so much more in return. Volunteers fulfill a number of important roles at St. Francis Healthcare System. Whether you simply offer your presence and encouraging words to a patient and their family or prefer to work behind the scenes, there is a place for you at St. Francis.
There are many ways you can make a difference in the life of another. We are sure that no matter which area you choose, you will enjoy being a part of St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii’s family of volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are as individual as you are, and we will work with your availability. Every contribution by a volunteer supports our mission to create healthy communities in the Spirit of Christ’s healing ministry.
Volunteer Opportunities
St. Francis Hospice
Volunteers are vital members of the hospice team and provide compassionate support to patients and their families during the end of life care. After free comprehensive volunteer training, you may decide on the type of volunteering you are interested in and how much time you want to give to hospice. Some of the services hospice volunteers provide are:
· Visits to patients’ homes, nursing homes or our inpatient facility
· Complementary therapies such as massage, music, pets and Healing Touch
· Bereavement support
· Spiritual support
· Musical talents
· Administrative support
St. Francis Adult Day Care
St. Francis Healthcare System has two adult day care program locations. Volunteers can assist with arts and crafts, playing music, helping with games, field trips and reading to clients.
Franciscan Vistas ʻEwa
Franciscan Vistas Ewa in Ewa Villages offers older adults age 62 years and above a healthy, stress-free lifestyle in an affordable independent living community. Volunteers can help with educational and social activities with the residents.
Our Lady of Kea’au
Our Lady of Kea‘au is a Franciscan place of prayer, refuge and recreation on Oahu’s Waianae Coast. Volunteers help with various projects such as preparing food, sorting donated clothing and household items for distribution, gardening, maintaining the pool, cleaning cabins, running errands and providing administrative support.
Senior Community Center
Our new and evolving Senior Community Center is in need of hospitality specialists to create a welcoming atmosphere and promote our organization to the general public. Volunteers could also help staff with the set up and close down of meetings or activities and light administrative tasks, as needed.
Special Events
We can’t host special events without the support of volunteers. We need help in many areas such as craft groups, fundraising events, memorial events, resource fairs and serving refreshments.
St. Francis Preschool
Our preschool volunteers help nurture young children to be prepared for kindergarten and the opportunities ahead of them. Volunteers help the preschoolers with storytelling, reading books, monitoring playtime, coloring and more.
